I wanted to give you an update on how the St. Margaret’s Project went.  As you may remember, at the beginning of Lent, Hannah Kirk did a short presentation about how her Confirmation Saints Name was St. Margaret, the patron saint of the homeless and those in need.  She shared how she and her friend Meredith Barrett wanted to make up “Blessing Bags” for the Catholic Mens’ Shelter in the city of Syracuse.   During Lent our parish family went over the top to bring in the needed items to make up the 130 Blessing Bags.  This past week, Hannah, Meredith, along with their dads, myself and Gabby Major went to the Catholic Charities Mens’ Shelter to hand out the bags.  We went very early in the morning so as to catch the men as they were getting up.  We brought along 130 apple fritters and juice to also serve the men that morning.  I asked Hannah afterwards how she felt and this is what she had to share;

“First of all, I was extremely humbled by the generosity of our St. Joe’s Parish family.  Then last week after we had delivered the bags, I happened to notice some of the men, carrying the bags on the street~ that made me feel so good.  But mostly, I just loved knowing that we made a difference in their lives.”

Thank you once again to our St. Joe’s family for all of the donated items, gift cards and money.  The men were so appreciative and thankful for what they received.   You all helped to make an impact on their lives and made them so very~very happy!

“It’s All Possible with God”

As men from the Syracuse Diocese and beyond look to the annual gathering at the IGNITE Catholic Men’s Conference, it is a great blessing of divine providence to celebrate on the Feast of the Annunciation. On March 25, 2017, we will meet again at the SRC Center on the campus of Onondaga Community College for a day of prayer, fellowship and inspiration featuring Chris Horn, Mark Houck, and Msgr. Jim Lisante, who was with us in 2011.

Just as Mary and Joseph were presented with an amazing responsibility at the Annunciation, so each of us has been entrusted with a specific responsibility to carry Christ to the world. I look forward to praying with you as we are strengthened and comforted by the Archangel’s promise that “It’s all possible with God.”

For those of you who may not know, Tom has been diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of multiple myeloma called plasma cell leukemia.  He is in urgent need of a donor for a stem cell transplant.  His wife, Debbie (former teacher and principal at West Genesee) is organizing a marrow drive with the help of parish and Camillus community members and Be the Match Foundation.

If you are between the ages of 18-44, you are urged to attend this drive.  You will be asked to complete a simple form and then will be tested with a simple cheek swab.  There is no cost involved.  Your name and test results will be added to the Be the Match Registry as a potential match for Tom or other people in need of stem cells.  If you are selected later as a match and agree to donate, some of your stem cells will be retrieved from your blood through a process called apheresis.  There is little to no discomfort involved in this procedure. You will NOT need to have a surgical bone marrow procedure.

For those of you 45 and older, you are welcome to attend and make a monetary donation to Be the Match

Foundation in Tom’s honorIf you are between 45 and 60 years of age, you are also encouraged to register online as a donor at www.bethematch.org .[/mk_fancy_title][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][mk_padding_divider size=”100″][/vc_column][/vc_row]
