MAY & JUNE ~AMAUS DENTAL SERVICES
Amaus Dental Services is an outreach ministry of The Immaculate Conception Cathedral, founded in August 2014. Its mission is to provide basic dental care to homeless, unemployed and uninsured patients of CNY.

The scope of service includes examinations, x-rays, hygiene, fillings and routine extractions. All of their staff are VOLUNTEERS that include dentists, dental hygienists, dental assistants & administrative personnel. The care is provided free of charge to the patients. In 2017 they expanded from a single room to a three room suite with modern equipment, digital x-rays, electronic dental records and a sterilization center. This expansion was accomplished by raising over $200,000 in funds and dental equipment from foundations, dentists, dental supply companies, and individuals.

Since August of 2014 over $250,000 of free care has been provided with $150,000 of that being delivered since our expansion one year ago.

SOME OF THEIR CHALLENGES that face this great organization is sustaining funding of $15,000 per year and procuring volunteers, which include:
• Dental Assistants (with experience or willing to learn)
• Dental Professionals
• Administrative volunteers for making appointments, answer phone calls and working with records. Time commitment is very flexible

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP??

CONTRIBUTE through the Living Your Faith envelope during the months of May and June. Any contribution during these two months would help them toward their $15,000 annual need.

On the weekend of Dec. 9th & 10th, Nancy Light, one of our parishioners and the Executive Director of Francis House will be here to share with us all the great works they do.

What is Francis House??  Francis House is a private home located in Syracuse. Founded by the Sisters of St. Francis, our mission is to provide a home and extended family to persons with terminal illnesses where they may die with dignity and experience the unconditional love of God.  Francis House has two homes, side by side, with 8 private bedrooms in each house.

We welcome people of all ages. Since opening our doors in 1991, we have cared for over 2,900 people from Syracuse and the surrounding area.  We look to the community at large to support our efforts.

The organization defines itself as “a grassroots, social justice, spiritually founded community collective organized to advocate on the behalf of the incarcerated; to promote peace-making and to advance the protection of human dignity within the community. Over 60 volunteers share their light and gifts on a regular basis to ensure that the Gospel imperative to visit the prisoner is lived out faithfully in our community.

We are excited to welcome Keith Cieplicki, Jail Ministry Coordinator, this weekend as he shares with us the great works of this organization.

Their mission is to serve healthy, nutritious lunches to all who come: no judging, no questions, showing God’s love in a practical way and following Jesus’ teaching to care for others. In 2016 just over 8,000 lunches were given away for a program total of over 23,000 lunches served.

This year we anticipate serving 8,200 lunches and our budget is $9,100.00. They are an ecumenical, all-volunteer program, and their funding is supported by the community: Churches, businesses, organizations, individual contributors, and two fundraisers.

This weekend we welcome Jean Whipple who is the Program Coordinator for The Free Brown Bag Lunch. A special note from Jean states: “Your prayers and support are a blessing to us, and together we can continue to make a difference in the lives of others.
